Math
The state of Michigan has adopted the Common Core standards to be taught in all classrooms. All of the skills on your child's report card that they should be able to master are based off of the Common Core. To see the complete list of Common Core standards click here. To teach these math standards DAAS uses the Envisions 2.0 curriculum in grades K-5. The program has a large emphasis on conceptual understanding and problem solving. What can you do to help?
- Review any math pages that your child brings home and ask them questions or go over one or two problems together.
- Complete the math boxes on the Tic-Tac-Toe homework sheet.
- Practice counting groups of objects, practice basic addition and subtraction facts to 20.
- Review the skills on your child's progress reports and report cards to see what she may need more help in. If you see your child has a 4 for any of the skills, you can help them practice that skill. Many of the math skills are practiced over several marking periods to give students a chance to practice and improve. We want to make sure they build a strong foundation in math and number concepts.
