Science
In first grade we do not teach both science and social studies each day. We teach a science unit and when that unit is complete we will switch to a social studies unit. More and more the concept of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) or STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) is increasingly becoming more and more important in education. Science should not only be hands on, but experimental and focus on solving problems. Click here to learn more about science standards in Michigan and STEM.
This year DAAS was lucky enough to receive a grant with Building Healthy Communities to teach students about living a more healthy lifestyle. They provided three different kinds of apples for students to taste test and learn about! Students were able to try out each apple and we voted on our favorites and made a graph to show the results!
